Sealant for EPDM Rubber Roofing
ClassicBond EPDM Lap Sealant is a heavy-bodied, gun-grade rubber sealant used to create a waterproof seal at termination bars and compression-type joints on EPDM rubber roofing systems.
It is designed to seal and protect exposed detailing where the membrane is mechanically secured or compressed, providing a durable, flexible weather barrier.
What Lap Sealant Is Used For ▸
ClassicBond Lap Sealant is typically used to:
- Seal the top edge of termination bars
- Seal compression-type joints
- Seal the perimeter of a pipe box pocket before pourable sealer is applied
- Protect exposed edges of uncured flashing tape
It is used as a finishing and weatherproofing seal, not as a bonding adhesive.
What It Is NOT Used For ▸
Lap Sealant:
- ❌ Is not a splice adhesive
- ❌ Is not used to bond membrane to membrane
- ❌ Does not replace primer or flashing tape
- ❌ Is not a deck adhesive
It seals exposed details - it does not create the seam itself.
Why Lap Sealant Matters ▸
Termination bars and compression joints rely on pressure to hold the membrane in place. The lap sealant:
- Prevents water tracking behind the bar
- Seals the exposed membrane edge
- Remains flexible with membrane movement
- Helps protect detailing from long-term weather exposure
Applied correctly, it adds an extra layer of protection at critical points on the roof.
Application (Simple Overview) ▸
- Ensure surfaces are clean and dry
- Apply an even bead along the top edge of the termination bar or joint
- Lightly tool if required to ensure full contact
- Apply before the end of the working day to all required details
Typical coverage:
- Approx. 6–7 linear metres per tube using an 8mm bead

A Roofer’s Perspective ▸
Lap sealant is what finishes a termination properly. The membrane may be mechanically secured, but without sealing the exposed edge, water can track behind it.
Used where specified, it completes the detail and protects it from long-term exposure.
