The ClassicBond EPDM Pipe Box Pocket is designed to weather complex or awkward penetrations on EPDM rubber roofing, where a standard pipe boot cannot be installed.

It creates a controlled containment area (“pocket”) around the penetration, allowing the detail to be sealed securely using EPDM primer and pourable sealer. The result is a watertight, stress-free seal that protects one of the most vulnerable areas of a flat roof.

When to Use a Pipe Box Pocket

A pipe box pocket is used when:

• A pipe or penetration sits tight against a wall
• Multiple pipes exit close together
• The penetration cannot be slipped over with a pipe boot
• The detail is irregular or boxed in
• The obstacle cannot be removed

Unlike a pipe boot, the pipe box pocket can be separated and reconnected, allowing it to be installed around existing obstructions.

Choose the size that allows a minimum 25mm clearance between the penetration and the inside of the pocket.

How the Pipe Box Pocket Is Installed (Overview)

Ensure all surfaces are clean and dry

1. Position the pipe box pocket around the penetration
2. Maintain at least 25mm clearance from the penetration to the inside wall of the pocket
3. Mark around the outside edge
4. Apply a continuous bead of Lap Sealant beneath the flange
5. Press the pocket firmly into position
6. Apply EPDM Primer to all internal surfaces (membrane, penetration, inside of pocket)
7. Allow primer to flash off
8. Fill the pocket using one-part pourable sealer
9. Protect from moisture while curing

If the pipe sits extremely close to a wall, one side of the pipe box pocket can be carefully trimmed to allow it to sit tight against the wall.

The cut edge must then be securely bonded to the wall using 3″ splice tape and EPDM primer before the pourable sealer is installed.

As an alternative, Lap Sealant may be used, but the pocket should be held firmly in place with weight on either side until the sealant has fully cured to prevent movement or separation.
