Fast-Drying Aerosol Bonding Adhesive for EPDM Rubber Roofing
ClassicBond SPB Spray Contact Adhesive is a high-strength aerosol bonding adhesive designed for fast, clean installation of EPDM rubber roofing membranes.
Applied by spray rather than roller, it dramatically reduces application time and drying time compared to traditional brush or roller-applied contact adhesive - making it ideal for upstands, vertical surfaces and detail areas.
Why Use Spray Contact Adhesive? ▸
Compared to standard roller-applied contact adhesive, ClassicBond SPB Aerosol Adhesive offers:
- Up to 6× faster application
- Up to 4× faster flash-off time
- Reduced waiting time before bonding
- Cleaner, simpler application
- More consistent and even coverage
- Minimal product waste
- Coverage of up to 3m² fully bonded per canister
It delivers the same instant grab and bond strength as traditional contact adhesive - but with significantly improved speed and workflow on site.
Where It’s Used ▸
ClassicBond Spray Contact Adhesive is used to bond EPDM membranes to:
- Timber
- Metal
- Masonry
- Concrete
- Insulation boards (non-bituminous)
It is primarily used for:
- Upstands and vertical surfaces
- Angle changes
- Detail areas
- 6″ perimeter bonding on standard ClassicBond EPDM
Important: ClassicBond vs ClassicBond Pro ▸
When installing:
Standard ClassicBond EPDM (non-reinforced):
- Use spray contact adhesive on upstands
- Apply a 150mm (6″) perimeter strip on the deck to prevent edge lift
ClassicBond Pro (fleece-backed EPDM):
- Spray adhesive is recommended for upstands only
- A 6″ perimeter strip on the deck is not required, as the reinforced fleece backing prevents shrinkage-related edge lift
Spray adhesive is particularly effective on fleece-backed EPDM, as it ensures more even coverage than roller application.
How It’s Applied (Overview) ▸
- Ensure surfaces are clean, smooth and dry
- Hold can 100–150mm from surface
- Spray adhesive evenly onto both surfaces
- Allow adhesive to become touch dry
- Mate surfaces carefully - contact adhesive cannot be repositioned
- Roll firmly to consolidate the bond
⚠️ If bonded while still wet, air bubbles may appear.
Important Limitations ▸
- Extremely flammable - keep away from heat and sparks
- Do not use in confined, unventilated spaces
- Not suitable for bonding to bituminous substrates (e.g. felt)
- Once bonded, membrane cannot be repositioned
A Roofer’s Perspective ▸
Spray contact adhesive is about speed and control. On upstands and fleece-backed EPDM, it’s cleaner and more consistent than roller application.
You get instant grab, strong bonding, and less time waiting for flash-off - especially useful when working against weather or tight schedules.
