The ClassicBond Horizontal Drain Kit is a complete EPDM roof drainage solution designed to safely drain flat roofs through parapet walls or thick external walls into hoppers, gutters, or downpipes.
It is used where water cannot drain vertically or over the roof edges and must exit the roof horizontally through a wall, forming a secure, watertight outlet at one of the most critical points on the roof.
Why Horizontal Drains Are a Critical Roof Detail ▸
Horizontal drains (also known as wall scuppers) are often where flat roofs fail if they’re poorly detailed.
Common problems include:
- Water backing up behind the outlet
- Leaks where the membrane meets the drain
- Movement between the roof and wall cracking the detail
This kit is designed to eliminate those risks by combining a purpose-made horizontal drain with uncured EPDM flashing and primer, so the outlet becomes part of the roof system rather than a weak point.
What Makes This Horizontal Drain Different ▸
The ClassicBond horizontal drain is made from IGOM synthetic rubber and features:
- A right-angled flange (140mm × 245mm) for secure bonding to the membrane
- A 500mm outlet length, ideal for thick external walls

Uncured EPDM flashing tape is essential for detailing around drains because it:
- Stretches easily over corners and edges
- Moulds tightly around the outlet flange
- Self-cures once installed
- Creates a stress-free, long-lasting seal
Using uncured flashing tape here prevents the lifting that can occur when cured EPDM is cut and folded around drains incorrectly.

How the Horizontal Drain Is Installed (High-Level Overview) ▸
- Mechanically fix the drain securely into the roof deck
- Apply bonding adhesive to the outlet flange (leave 50–75mm around the outlet clear)
- Install the EPDM membrane over the roof
- Cut the membrane to expose the outlet flange
- Prime the membrane and drain flange
- Install uncured EPDM flashing tape to seal the outlet to the membrane
- Install a secondary flashing collar inside the outlet
- Fit the leaf guard
This creates a watertight seal both on the roof surface and inside the outlet pipe.
