Sustainable Lead Replacement for Roof Flashings & Wall Details - 6m Roll Lengths
Leadax Original is a circular lead alternative designed to perform like traditional lead flashing - without the weight, toxicity or scrap value.
Manufactured from recycled PVB (the safety interlayer used in laminated glass), Leadax provides a durable, waterproof solution for roof flashings, abutments and cavity trays. It contains no heavy metals and is fully recyclable at end of life.
On flat roofs, Leadax is commonly used as a wall flashing alternative to traditional lead, offering easier handling and reduced theft risk.
What It’s Used For ▸
- Wall flashings on flat and pitched roofs
- Chimney flashings and abutments
- Dormer and rooflight detailing
- Cavity trays and wall junctions
- Valley gutters and ridge detailing
When used as a wall flashing, Leadax can be secured into a chase using dedicated masonry clips (sold separately).
Why Choose Leadax Instead of Lead? ▸
Traditional lead is heavy, expensive and increasingly targeted for theft. Leadax offers a practical alternative.
Key benefits include:
- 85% lighter than Code 4/5 lead (approx. 3.85kg/m²)
- No scrap value - not attractive to thieves
- Non-toxic and free from heavy metals
- Supplied in longer roll lengths to reduce overlaps
- Can be shaped and dressed by hand
It provides the same core function as lead - a flexible, watertight flashing - but with improved handling and environmental credentials.
Installation Overview ▸
- Install at temperatures above 5°C.
- Ensure the substrate is dry, clean and free from grease or dust.
- Remove the protective foil from the underside before installation.
- Form and pre-shape by hand, then dress into place using a lead dresser or roller.
Overlaps (minimum 80mm):
- Can be welded using hot air (recommended 400–450°C depending on conditions), or
- Sealed using Leadax High Tack sealant.
Press welded seams firmly using a roller.
For areas exposed to higher wind loads, moulded sections or facing details, secure using suitable sealant and/or Lead fixing clips.
On flat and low-pitch roofs, all edges and seams should be sealed using suitable sealant.
After installation, remove the top protective foil within 30 days.
Leadax is compatible with all common roofing materials. When installing onto sensitive surfaces, use suitable sealant rather than hot air.
