Fibre-Reinforced GRP Base Resin for Flat Roof Systems

GRP Roof 1010 Base Coat Resin is the primary laminating resin used in the Restec GRP Roof 1010 fibreglass roofing system. Manufactured in the UK by Restec Roofing Systems, this orthophthalic polyester resin is specifically formulated for flat roofing applications - not general-purpose GRP.

Used in conjunction with 450g or 600g chopped strand mat (CSM) and GRP Roof catalyst, it forms the structural base laminate of the system before the GRP 1010 Top Coat is applied.

Available in 10kg and 20kg tins.

This is a professional installer system and is recommended for use by trained contractors.

What It’s Used For
  • Forming the reinforced base laminate in the GRP Roof 1010 system
  • Laminating over OSB3 TG4 decks
  • Flat roof replacements and new builds
  • Domestic and commercial GRP roof installations

Applied at 1.0 litre per m² when using 450g CSM

(1.33 litres per m² when using 600g CSM – see application manual)

Must be catalysed with GRP Roof 1010 MEKP Catalyst (1–4%) depending on deck temperature.

Why Professionals Use GRP 1010

Restec has built a strong reputation in the UK GRP roofing market. The 1010 Base Resin is formulated specifically for roofing, offering:

  • Excellent structural and water resistance properties
  • Fast wetting of fibreglass mat for efficient consolidation
  • Easy-flowing resin for easier mixing and detailing
  • Thixotropic behaviour to reduce sagging on vertical areas
  • Rapid colour change when catalysed (blue to orangey-brown) confirming correct mixing
  • Early “walk-on” capability once cured

Each 20kg tin incorporates recycled PET content, supporting more sustainable roofing installations

Installation Overview (Base Laminate Stage)
  • Ensure the OSB3 TG4 deck is fully dry and correctly fixed.
  • Stir the resin thoroughly in the original container before decanting.
  • Add catalyst between 1–4% depending on conditions/deck temperature.
  • Apply evenly by roller.
  • Lay 450g or 600g CSM into wet resin with 50mm overlaps (frayed edge over straight edge).
  • Consolidate thoroughly using a paddle roller to remove air and ensure full fibre wet-out.

Application temperature: 5°C to 30°C

(Accelerator available for low-temperature work – see full application manual)

Reinforce joints prior to application.

Roofer’s Perspective

This is a solid, predictable base resin. It wets out 450g mat quickly, consolidates properly with minimal effort and cures reliably when catalysed at the right rate. Get your ratios and coverage right, and you end up with a strong, even laminate that’s ready for top coat without drama.
