Specified Reinforcement for the Flexitec 2020 GRP Roofing System
225g fibreglass matting is the specified chopped strand reinforcement used within the Flexitec 2020 GRP roofing system and Arboflex liquid waterproofing system. Embedded into the first coat of Flexitec resin, it forms a strong, flexible laminate that gives the finished membrane its structural strength, durability and long-term performance.
This reinforcement weight is defined as part of the Flexitec and Arboflex system build-up and should be used to achieve compliant installations.

What the 225g Matting Does ▸
When fully wetted out with Flexitec 2020 resin, the 225g matting:
- Reinforces the waterproofing layer
- Distributes resin evenly across the roof surface
- Provides tensile strength and crack resistance
- Allows the membrane to accommodate movement without failure
Once consolidated correctly, the matting becomes an integral part of the finished system, not a separate layer.
Why 225g Matting Is Used with Flexitec ▸
The 225g weight is specified because it offers the correct balance of:
- Strength
- Flexibility
- Ease of consolidation
It breaks down quickly when worked with resin, allowing fast detailing while still forming a dense, pinhole-free laminate.
Using heavier or lighter matting can affect resin consumption, consolidation quality and overall system behaviour and is not recommended.
Installation Guidance (Best Practice) ▸
- Apply approximately two-thirds of the required resin to the surface first
- Roll out the matting into the wet resin
- Work the resin through the fibres using a roller
- Apply the remaining resin on top to achieve a fully closed surface
Correctly consolidated matting will appear “swirly”. If fibres remain straight or white, additional working and resin is required.
Detailing & Overlaps ▸
- Minimum 50mm overlaps
- Feathered edges should overlap cut edges
- Matting can be torn to create feathered edges
- Ensure matting is fully wetted through before moving on
Attention to overlaps and consolidation is critical to achieving a seamless, durable finish.
