Reinforced Aluminium Vapour Control Layer for Warm Roofs
Elotene DSN is a high-performance self-adhesive bituminous vapour barrier designed for warm deck flat roofing systems. It forms a total barrier against vapour and gases, including methane and radon, making it suitable for buildings with high internal humidity.
Manufactured with a composite aluminium foil reinforced with an integral glass fibre mat and a high-tack self-adhesive bitumen backing, Elotene DSN provides strength, puncture resistance and dependable adhesion when installed correctly.
This is a trade-grade vapour control layer used beneath insulation in commercial and domestic flat roof builds.
What It’s Used For ▸
- Warm deck flat roof constructions
- Installation directly onto structural decks
- Use beneath adhered or mechanically fixed insulation systems
- High humidity buildings such as swimming pools, kitchens, sports halls and industrial facilities
Suitable substrates include:
- Concrete
- Plywood / OSB
- Profiled metal decking
Primer (RedStar / InStar Primer) is recommended on all surfaces to maximise adhesion.
Why It Matters ▸
In a warm roof, the vapour barrier protects the insulation from internal moisture. If vapour gets into the insulation layer, performance drops and long-term damage can follow.
Elotene DSN delivers:
- Sd value ≥ 1,500m (very high vapour resistance)
- Cold-applied installation - no hot works
- Excellent puncture resistance for use on steel decks
- High tensile and tear strength
- A polyester-coated aluminium surface that allows most PU insulation adhesives to bond directly to it
It gives you a tough, walkable vapour barrier that can handle site traffic during installation.
Installation Overview ▸
- Ensure substrate is dry, smooth and clean.
- Apply primer where required (especially porous surfaces).
- Unroll and align membrane perpendicular to roof falls.
- Overlap edges by 50–80mm and roll ends by at least 150mm.
- Remove release film and press firmly into place using a broom or roller.
Application temperature range: 5°C to 45°C.
Membrane should be covered with insulation and waterproofing within 1–2 weeks to protect from UV exposure.

Roofer’s Perspective ▸
You need a vapour barrier that can handle site traffic and won’t tear while the rest of the build-up goes down. Elotene DSN is tough, bonds well when primed correctly and gives you confidence the deck is sealed properly before insulation is installed.
