Curing Agent for Restec GRP 1010 Base & Top Coat

GRP Roof 1010 Liquid Catalyst is the MEKP curing agent used to activate both the GRP 1010 Base Coat Resin and GRP 1010 Top Coat within the Restec fibreglass roofing system.

When mixed at the correct percentage, the catalyst starts the chemical curing process, generating controlled heat and transforming the liquid resin into a solid, reinforced GRP laminate.

Recommended for professional installer use only.

Available in 1kg and 5kg containers.

  • Controlling working time and cure speed

Correct catalyst ratios are critical to system performance.

Catalyst Addition Rates

Base Coat Resin: 1% – 4% depending on temperature

Top Coat: 1% – 3% depending on temperature

Never under-catalyse or over-catalyse.
Using less than 1% or more than the maximum recommended percentage will impair cured performance.

Always refer to the GRP 1010 application manual for full catalyst ratio charts.

Why Correct Catalysing Matters

Catalyst controls:

  • Pot life (working time)
  • Cure speed
  • Final laminate strength
  • Surface finish

Too little catalyst can result in under-cure and soft laminate.
Too much catalyst will not speed up cure beyond limits and can reduce long-term performance.

The Base Resin includes a colour change mechanism (blue to orangey-brown) to confirm catalyst has been properly mixed.

Important Handling Notes
  • MEKP is hazardous and corrosive.
  • Always wear appropriate PPE.
  • Store below 25°C in well-ventilated conditions.
  • Never allow accelerator and catalyst to come into direct contact.
Roofer’s Perspective

Catalyst control is everything in GRP. Get your percentages right for the temperature and your pot life becomes predictable. Measure accurately, mix properly, and the system behaves exactly as it should.
