This Aluminium Termination Bar is designed to mechanically clamp and secure EPDM rubber roofing membranes where they terminate onto an adjoining surface such as felt, GRP, masonry or existing roofing materials.
It creates a compression seal at the joining point, forming a professional and durable watertight detail when used correctly with Water Cut-Off Mastic and Lap Sealant.
What Is a Termination Bar Used For? ▸
A termination bar is used to “terminate” an EPDM membrane where it meets:
- Existing felt roofing
- GRP roofing
- Masonry walls
- Parapet upstands
It is particularly useful where cutting a wall chase is not practical or desirable.
Instead of chasing the membrane into brickwork, the termination bar mechanically secures the membrane to the wall.
Why Mechanical Compression Matters ▸
Simply bonding EPDM to an adjoining material is not sufficient.
Used in conjunction with water cut off mastic & lap sealant, the termination bar:
- Mechanically clamps the membrane
- Applies consistent compression along the joint
- Prevents membrane pull-back
- Controls movement at upstands
- Prevents water tracking behind the membrane
This compression is essential for a reliable EPDM edge detail.
Used With Water Cut-Off & Lap Sealant ▸
For a correct installation:
- Apply Water Cut-Off Mastic beneath the membrane before fixing the bar
- This compresses and seals around each fixing penetration - Install the termination bar and secure using supplied fixings
- Apply Lap Sealant along the top edge of the bar
- This provides surface weather protection
The combination of compression seal (beneath) and edge seal (above) creates a proper watertight detail.
