Self-Adhesive Air & Vapour Control Layer for Warm Roofs
VapAir Seal MD is a self-adhesive aluminium vapour barrier manufactured by CCM Europe, designed for warm deck flat roof constructions where insulation is mechanically fixed.
At 0.4mm thick, VapAir is lighter than ALUTRIX 600 (0.6mm) but still delivers high vapour resistance and airtight performance. It consists of a reinforced aluminium composite with a self-adhesive bitumen backing and removable release film.
Installed at deck level beneath insulation, it forms a vapour-tight and air-tight layer within the roof build-up.
What It’s Used For ▸
- Warm roof constructions with mechanically fixed insulation
- Installation directly onto structural decks
- Projects requiring a high vapour resistance layer
- Buildings with high internal humidity (kitchens, bathrooms, sports halls, etc.)
Suitable substrates include:
- Galvanised or uncoated metal
- Plastic coated substrates
- Timber and timber-based boards
- Bituminous materials
FG35 primer is required for installation.
Why It Matters ▸
In a warm roof, the vapour barrier protects the insulation from internal moisture. If vapour reaches the insulation layer, thermal performance drops and condensation is likely to occur.
VapAir Seal MD provides:
- Sd value > 1,500m
- High tensile strength (≥ 800/700 N/5cm)
- Strong shear resistance (657 N/5cm)
- Self-sealing around mechanical fixings
- Cold-applied installation (no hot works)
It creates a durable air and vapour control layer before insulation and waterproofing are installed.
Installation Overview ▸
- Ensure substrate is dry, smooth and clean.
- Apply FG35 primer where required.
- Lay membrane with minimum 50mm overlaps.
- Remove release film and press firmly into place.
- Roll seams to ensure full bond.
Membrane should be covered with insulation and waterproofing promptly after installation.

Roofer’s Perspective ▸
When you’re mechanically fixing insulation, you need a vapour barrier that seals properly and won’t split around fixings. VapAir goes down quickly, bonds well when primed and gives you confidence the deck is sealed before the build-up continues.
