Pressure-Sensitive Repair & Cover Strip for EPDM Rubber Roofing - Sold per linear metre

ClassicBond 6″ EPDM Cover Tape (PS Cured Cover Strip) is a pressure-sensitive, fully cured EPDM cover strip used for repairs, abutments and reinforced detailing on EPDM rubber roofing systems.

At 152mm (6″) wide, it provides a strong, durable covering strip where standard 3″ splice tape is not suitable - such as patch repairs, end laps on fleece-backed systems, and membrane abutments.

What 6″ Cover Tape Is Used For

ClassicBond 6″ Cover Tape is designed for:

  • EPDM patch repairs (cuts, punctures, splits)
  • Joining two membranes where there is no 75mm overlap available
  • Sealing end laps on ClassicBond Pro fleece-backed EPDM
  • Terminating membrane to a lead skirt with ClassicBond Pro where a flat roof meets a pitched or mansard roof
  • Reinforcing skylight upstands in conjunction with 9″ Uncured Elastoform Flashing Tape
Why Use 6″ Cover Tape Instead of 3″ Splice Tape?

3″ splice tape is designed for membrane-to-membrane seams with a 75mm overlap.

6″ cover tape is used when:

  • There is no overlap for a join
  • A repair patch is required
  • Additional reinforcement is needed
  • Sealing fleece-backed EPDM end laps
  • Creating a termination onto lead or other substrates

It provides a wider, more robust covering strip and is especially useful in repair situations - as weak spots must be covered 3 inches in every direction, a 6 inch width is suited perfectly.

Product Construction & Performance

ClassicBond 6" PS Cover Strip is:

  • A fully cured EPDM membrane
  • With a factory-applied pressure-sensitive synthetic rubber adhesive
  • Nominal 2.29mm thick
  • 152mm (6″) wide x 30.5m roll
  • Designed to resist tearing, flex cracking and weathering

Because it is fully cured, it can handle expansion and contraction without weakening.

How It’s Installed (Best Practice)
  1. Ensure the membrane surface is clean and dry
  2. Remove dirt and dust; use membrane cleaner if required
  3. Apply ClassicBond EPDM Primer with a scrubbing pad
  4. Allow primer to flash off (no transfer to dry finger)
  5. Position the cover strip and apply firm hand pressure
  6. Immediately roll with a 50mm steel roller, rolling across the edge
  7. Apply lap sealant where specified (e.g., overlaps or metal joints)

Primer must always be used with PS Cover Strip.

Important Notes
  • Must be used with ClassicBond EPDM Primer
  • Not suitable for flashing pipes or corners (use uncured flashing instead)
  • Store dry and protect from excessive heat
  • For cold weather installs (below 5°C), heat the primed area during application
A Roofer’s Perspective

3″ splice tape joins sheets.
6″ cover tape fixes problems.

Whether it’s a patch repair, fleeceback end lap or awkward termination to lead, 6″ cover strip gives you a wider, more forgiving seal. Installed with primer and rolled properly, it becomes part of the membrane system and performs like the original roof.
